Director y creador
Jorge R. Gutierrez was born in Mexico City and raised in Tijuana. At CalArts, he received his BFA and MFA in Experimental Animation under Jules Engel. For his thesis film, he created the CG short "Carmelo", which won a 2001 Student Emmy Award and was screened at the Cannes Film Festival. In collaboration with his wife, Sandra Equihua, Gutierrez created the Emmy- and Annie Award-winning Nickelodeon series “El Tigre, The Adventures of Manny Rivera”. He co-wrote and directed "The Book of Life" (2014). He's currently writing and directing the upcoming mini series “Maya and the Three" for Netflix.
